As you use the database we are developing, keep in mind that we are starting with the book, Musicks Across America (MAA 2016) as the basis for numbering. We will develop a new system after we get all of this information available to our family.

I first added a Generation 2 prefix to the number. The nine Generation 2 prefixes are: JR=George Jr., AM=Ambrose, DA=Daniel, EX=Elexious, AB-Abraham, KE=Kezia, EL-Elisabeth, EP-Ephraim, and AG=Agnes “Nan”. It was important to keep track of which generation every person belonged and identifying each person with a unique number. To arrive at a unique number, I have assigned a generation number, i.e. “G3” to designate the third generation, using George and Ann, the pioneers as Generation 1.

The next number is where in the MAA book the person falls in the tree. For example, Robert Musick Sr. is EP-G4-119. This will distinguish him from Robert Musick DA-G4-39 “Red Haired Bob”, or any other of the many Robert Musicks in our database.

If there was no more research on a child, for example, Robert EP-G4-119 has his children identified with G5 and their unique numbers 374-381. We would look for them on pages 192-196 in the MAA book. There are two children for whom no information was provided in the book. Those children are his (viii) child George and his (x) child Robert Jr. We would identify these children as EP-G5-119-viii and EP-G5-119-x. Each subsequent generation is numbered EP-G6 and so on until we renumber the tree.

There are errors in the book and in most cases, we have researched beyond what was in the MAA.

At this time, the database will only be available to some members of MusickFamily.online. We are in the process of building this tree now. We will open it up gradually. We have many unsettled opinions about the relationships of our earliest ancestors.

We will put the first few generations on the website and more into the database. Be patient.

As I edit this today, 11 Apr 2023, there are 19,010 people, 6,513 photos, and about 40,000 records in the Musick Family Online family tree.
