Saturday, August 5th Weaver’s Creek, Cleveland, Russell County, Virginia
We will be meeting at the Weaver’s Creek Baptist Church. Julie Musick will be there to explain how to use the Musick Family website and where to post corrections and additions to the family tree.
Mark your calendars and make an alarm so you won’t forget to come. We’d like as many family members as possible.
The reunion returns to meeting on the first Saturday in August.
Our Report: We all had a great time at the 66th Musick reunion. Sally Musick did a great job organizing it. I’m unsure who helped, so I apologize for not mentioning you by name. Helen Owens, author and family historian, supplied the runners and flowers for the tables–and the widely popular family charts for the descendants of Elexious Musick II and Lydia Thompson. Norma Musick Kiser made arrangements for the church and door prizes. I saw Cliff Musick and Chris Musick, helping Sally along with many others. The music and singing were wonderful. We do have a talented family. It was shocking to my brothers and me to see so many Musicks in one place! It was disappointing to have no internet connection or cell phone service but we managed what we could with the Musicks Across America book and our printed family pages. I’m sorry to all who wanted to see the event streaming. On Sunday, some of the genealogists in the family had an impromptu meeting at the Historical Society Library and discussed our family roots. It was wonderful to trade stories with family members who share a love of history and genealogy. We were all in our element! My thanks to Robert Smith, Rose Ann Jenny, Chris Musick, Brad Musick, and @PatriciaMusickHatfield for sharing your insight and knowledge of the area and its people. You guys are awesome. It was a happy time talking “shop.” We will be meeting again in the future for certain! I think without exception, everyone at the reunion was descended from David Musick (who was scalped by the Shawnee in 1792) and his wife Annie McKinney Musick Bundy Hatfield. Most came from David’s son, Elexious Musick II, and Lydia Thompson line. My brothers and I descend from David Musick’s son, Abraham Musick. Rose Ann descends from Phoebe, daughter of David and Annie. Tell me if there were more. My brothers and I felt valued and welcome. Best of all, our cousins became our friends. Some of you were so generous, I cried. I should get everyone’s request into Ancestry for access to the tree, this week. I changed the tree from “private” to “public” until I get all of your names in. The tree is called Musick Family Online. It will be private again next week. If you don’t see your genealogy line, send me a direct message with each generation pair to your immediate family. I’m going to curl up with Helen Owens’ book and then get back to loading our family online.
